Radon Testing
Radon is a radioactive, colorless and odorless gas that is naturally present in the ground as a decay product of uranium. Given this, radon can potentially accumulate in low areas such as basements and crawl spaces as it tries to move from an area of high pressure to one of lower pressure (i.e. inside your home). While cracks in the foundation make this easier, it can move through concrete foundations without cracks. Roughly 1 in 15 homes in the US have elevated radon levels.
While the effects of low-level exposure are not yet known, high-level exposures have been linked to lung problems, including lung cancer. The EPA's guidelines require radon levels be below 4.0 pCi/L before mitigation is required. The good news is that there are many effective, affordable solutions for this issue. Premiere Home Inspectors is certified to perform radon testing. We will leave a radon test kit in the home for 48 hours, and then pick it up and send to a lab for measuring. Results are typically available within 24 hours. Once we have the information in hand, we will add the results to your personal client portal. |
