Radon Testing
Radon is a radioactive, colorless, and odorless gas naturally present in the ground as a decay product of uranium. Given this, radon can potentially accumulate in low areas such as basements and crawl spaces as it moves from a place of high pressure to one of lower pressure (i.e., inside your home). While cracks in the foundation make this easier, it can move through concrete foundations without cracks. Roughly 1 in 15 homes in the US have elevated radon levels.
While the effects of low-level exposure are not yet known, high-level exposures have been linked to lung problems, including lung cancer. The EPA's guidelines require radon levels to be above 4.0 pCi/L before mitigation is needed. The good news is that there are many practical, affordable solutions for this issue. Premiere Home Inspectors is certified to perform radon testing. We will leave a radon test kit in the home for 48 hours, pick it up, and send it to a lab for measuring. Once we have the radon test results, we will add them to your client portal. |
